From the beginning, McLane has always been about innovation, integrity and leadership. We evolved from a small retail grocer in 1894, to a leading grocery wholesaler and distributor in the ’60s and ’70s, to a worldwide logistics powerhouse in the 1990s. Today, McLane is a supply chain services leader, delivering more than 10 billion pounds of merchandise to customers every year.

Beliefs & Values
Principles That Guide Our Relationships
Since our 1894 founding in Cameron, Texas, McLane has been through many changes. One aspect that has not changed is our beliefs and values.
Our founder, Robert McLane, felt deeply that business should be based on honesty, integrity and high Christian principles. These beliefs and values are the principles that guide our relationships with customers, teammates and shareholders.
Over 120 years later, we continue to honor these principles in all our day-to-day business relationships.
McLane Company is dedicated to fostering an environment where employees are treated equally and one that is reflective of the diverse world in which we live. Each employee, or “teammate,” is considered a valuable component of our supply chain management process and the overall McLane team, also consisting of “coaches” and our People team. Our core values and beliefs are ingrained in everything we do and speak to our family-centric mentality. Our commitment to our customers’ success is also reflective of our passion to make a difference in the community and within talent advancement. In fact, McLane has some of the longest tenured employees in the industry, some of which advanced from washing trucks and admin positions to carry the title of president.
Diversity is not limited to gender or ethnicity. It is the belief that every person has something to contribute regardless of gender, ethnicity, generation, disability, religion or orientation. Embracing diversity means that each teammate is able to bring their full selves to work and all contributions are valued. That being open to ideas and different perspectives than our own makes us stronger. Diversity is not a word on a wall, but it is a cornerstone to how we do business. It allows us to out-innovate and stay ahead of the competition. We are working hard to identify and address gaps in our workforce and opportunities for teammate growth. We are focusing our efforts in the following ways:
Leadership development for women through our partnership with Women’s Foodservice Forum
Disability Inclusion and expanding work opportunities to people with disabilities through our Spark Initiative
Military veteran recruitment and driver training through our Warriors to Wheels program
Every teammate has a critical role to play in this effort. You can spread the word about what we are doing and seek out mentors that will help you grow personally and professionally. You can look for opportunities to stretch into leadership roles on teams or in your department. Doing this will help grow our diversity, as well as diverse leaders.
Green Advantage / Sustainability
McLane is also a dedicated environmental partner, committed to living, working and investing to improve the communities we serve. Through our Green Advantage Initiative, we have made significant improvements in the way we work that will not only reduce our environmental impact, but also make McLane a better and more efficient company.
Some of our Green Advantage highlights to date include:
Over $100 million invested in all types of automation with a key focus on energy conservation
$7 million investment in energy efficient lighting and motion detectors for distribution centers
Recycling and treating water used in wash bays to eliminate contaminants and save thousands of gallons yearly
Limited the highway speeds of all trucks to conserve fuel and reduce our carbon footprint
Replacing 95% of the tractor fleet to improve emissions performance by reducing 10% of the fuel burned and lowering NOx levels. In addition, McLane is currently researching vendors in the electric/hybrid class 8 truck market to help reduce emission and improve performance
Utilizing organic vendors who repurpose old food for composting, animal feed and waste-to-energy to divert expired or recalled food product from the landfill
